With an atomic breath, the King of Monsters blows his 70th birthday candle.
For the occasion, Japan Expo in collaboration with Toho Studios, presents the titanic history of Godzilla, the gigantic symbol of Kaijû-eiga and pop culture, from his first giant steps into a miniature Tokyo in 1954 to his most recent misdeeds in Godzilla Minus One.

Godzilla is a landmark of monster movies. Finding new ways to represent the difference in scale between the sets and a gigantic creature.
Godzilla revolutionized the genre, favoring the suitmation technique, giving another level of realism in its ability to reduce to rubble models of cities and buildings all too familiar to audiences of the time. Godzilla's predecessors (King Kong, The Beast From 20000 Fathoms, etc.) preferred to animate their creatures in stop-motion, thus not achieving the same level of tangibility.

We invite you to take a behind-the-scenes look at the production process, discover the secrets behind the making of the films, and find out just how big a part of pop-culture Godzilla has played through hundreds of goodies, figurines and posters.

On the "Univers des Fans" booth, you'll find this superb 224-page catalog, featuring over 160 illustrations by Yuji Kaida, as well as an exclusive 16-page interview with the painter of kaijûs!

Enough to keep a gigantic souvenir of this exhibition!
