Why did you create Japan Expo Marseille?

Japan Expo Marseille was born to meet a demand: the south of France was lacking in pop-culture festivals. Fans of Japanese culture were able to meet up at Japan Expo Marseille, which has since grown to become one of the biggest festivals in the region.

Why did you change the name from “Chibi Japan Expo Sud” to Japan Expo Marseille?

The festival was originally much smaller than its Parisian sister, so “Chibi” was appropriate to let visitors know that it wasn't an event on the same scale. Over the years, the festival has grown, and it became counterproductive to continue calling it that, so the co-founders opted for the name Japan Expo Marseille!

For the festival's 15th anniversary, we've got some great surprises in store, including the Zen + 15 years ticket, in limited quantities, which will enable holders to experience Japan Expo Marseille like never before!

Brigitte Lecordier is the festival's first guest! Known for her roles as Son Goku as a child and Son Gohan, she is also the voice of Bojji in Ranking of kings and the artistic director of Frieren!

As far as the festival is concerned, several exhibitions are already planned:

  • The Godzilla exhibition, which will teach you all you need to know about the King of Monsters
  • The K-Drama exhibition, to discover this genre that has taken our streaming platforms by storm
  • A special 15-year anniversary exhibition, retracing Japan Expo Marseille from its beginnings to the present day, and showing its evolution!
