Tsukasa Kotobuki began his professional career as a cartoonist at the age of 20, working as an assistant to the author of GunSmith Cats, mangaka Kenichi Sonoda. His work was spotted by animator and character designer Masami Ôbari (The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird, Bubblegum Crisis, Gravion), who called on him to work on the costume design for the costumes in Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, thus launching Tsukasa Kotobuki's career in animation.

He drew several mangas based on the famous Gundam science fiction series. Starting in 1993 with Ike! Ike! Bokura no V Gundam, a parody of the Victory Gundam series that was broadcast at the time. Then in the 2000s with the manga Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Day After Tomorrow - Report of Kai Shiden, following the adventures of the former White Base crew member turned journalist.

Tsukasa Kotobuki was then asked to work as a character designer on the project celebrating the 35th anniversary of the first Gundam series, the anime adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. He assisted the great Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the original character designer of the Mobile Suit Gundam series and author of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga.

Following his work on Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Tsukasa Kotobuki is now working on another flagship license for Bandai Namco Filmworks (formerly Sunrise), as he was involved as animation director on City Hunter the Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes.

Meet Tsukasa Kotobuki at Japan Expo Marseille 2024 during signing sessions and on stage for a conference and a live drawing battle!
