Presentation
Grown in pots, bonsai are miniature trees in the shape of actual trees as found in nature.
Introduced in Japan in the Heian period (794 – 1192), bonsai are artworks symbolizing eternity and harmony between men and nature. For a long time, they remained in leading classes, feudal and religious. Today, bonsai are much more popular and many Japanese people cultivate them, maintaining ancient traditions. Since 1934, a bonsai exhibit is held every year at Tokyo’s art museum.
