Biography

Nobuaki TOMITA was born in 1963 in Kyoto where he learnt the trade of kimono with a wholesaler in the district of Muromachi. He set up on his own at 27 and started as a kimono designer, which led him to work in Japan and abroad.

On top of his activities as a designer, Nobuaki TOMITA is also a producer and consultant. As such, he worked with the NHK for several shows, as well as with film directors and major international museums. For every film on which he works, he feels it is essential for him to deal with the kitsuke (the art of wearing the kimono) of the actors and actresses.

Nobuaki TOMITA regularly visits universities worldwide to hold lectures about the art of kimono. He is also a Cultural Ambassador for many cities across Japan.

As a highly talented Jack of all trades, Nobuaki TOMITA has worked in the US as well as in Europe or Asia.

Program
